IAmFeelingWorry

I'm tired of having to take care of my disabled husband.

My husband who's 28 years old and I've been married to for 4 years, had a terrible accident at a pool 4 months ago when we went out on a vacation trip. He broke his neck resulting in a C3 spinal cord injury. He spent 3 weeks in a coma in the ICU and I thought my husband was gone. Unfortunately with the injury he had, doctors told me he'd never be able to move anything below his neck and would have to use ventilator to breathe. After my husband woke up, he cried when he learned he'd never be able to walk again and said he no longer wanted to live like this. I made him a promise that I'd take care of him no matter what and I've been doing it ever since. Things are just complicated for us now. We have a 1 year-old toddler and right now I'm 7 months pregnant. It's all tiring. I've had to ask my sister to come to my house to help me because I can't do everything since I work from 9 to 5. I used to do some chores a few months ago, but I'm feeling tired now because of the pregnancy. Because of my husband's injury, he requires help showering, eating, dressing, getting on bed, and much more. He also has to use catheters and diapers because he can't go to the bathroom and can't control his bladder nor bowel. I also get worried at night about him stopping breathing, I'm always making sure he's breathing fine with his ventilator. It's just exhausting having to help him with those things, I feel like I'm taking care of a baby adult. And to make matters even worse, my husband is constantly crying every day complaining about how much he hates his life now and that he wishes he was euthanized, but at the same time he wants to see both of our children grow up. I don't know how to help him, I can't make him walk nor do anything to heal him. We've even had arguments because he sometimes doesn't like how I do things. To be honest, I've sometimes felt like just giving up on my husband because there's not much I can do for him, but he's the father of my children, and my 1 year-old son has been sad seeing his dad on this condition. I can't give up on my husband even if I feel stressed, but I feel like I'm breaking apart taking care of my husband. I love him and I made him a promise, but I'm losing hope.
