I stole one piece from my friend's 2000-piece puzzle nine years ago. He framed it without the piece.
We were roommates in college and he spent nearly three weeks doing this huge landscape puzzle on our dining table.
One night he was being incredibly smug because I had said I'd never have the patience to finish something like that. So while he was showering, I took one piece from near the edge and put it in my wallet.
The plan was to let him panic for maybe five minutes when he finished, then magically "find" it under the table.
Except when he finally got to the end, he wasn't angry.
He searched for a while, shrugged, and said the missing piece actually made it cooler because now there was "proof a real person finished it."
Then he glued the whole thing together.
With the hole.
And framed it.
That puzzle has been hanging in his home for nine years now. He has moved it through three apartments.
I still have the missing piece.
It's been sitting in a little envelope in the back of my desk drawer this entire time because returning it now somehow feels WAY worse than stealing it did.
