I intentionally baited my competitive sister-in-law into stealing the worst wedding venue in our state
So my sister-in-law is the most competitively insecure person I have ever met. For five straight years, whatever I bought or planned, she had to copy it and try to do it bigger. When I got engaged in 2025, she got engaged three months later and immediately started grilling me about my vendors.
I knew exactly what she was trying to do, so I set a trap.
at a Sunday family dinner, I loudly announced that I found my "dream venue". It was this rustic barn venue two hours outside the city. In reality, I had already read dozens of horror reviews online about how the owners had no air conditioning, flooded gravel parking, and terrible catering that gave people food poisoning. I pretended I had a soft hold on it for July.
Two days later, she went behind my back, called the owner, offered a two-thousand-dollar cash bonus to snipe my date, and posted the contract in the family group chat bragging about how fast she locked it down.
I put on an Oscar-worthy performance of being completely heartbroken. My mother-in-law scolded her, the family called her selfish, and I quietly went and booked the air-conditioned vineyard venue I actually wanted all along.
Her July wedding was an absolute DISASTER. It was ninety-eight degrees inside the uninsulated barn, the generators blew out twice, the food was lukewarm gray chicken, and half her guests left by 8 PM.
She spent forty thousand dollars on a sweatbox because her envy was too strong to resist. I take this secret to my grave.
