I left my fiancé at the altar five years ago because of a sign

I think everyone I tell this story to thinks I’m insane. My family definitely didn’t like it after they’d caught up with me but I don’t regret it I don’t think I ever will. All my life I have never been a religious person but I do believe in paranormal, things we can’t explain, witchy stuff. I have always experienced signs from the universe to guide me or felt it helped me. Like brooms fall and then someone shows up, hang up a mistletoe and I experienced my first kiss under it. Blah blah. I met my would have been husband six years ago when I was twenty and fell completely for him. It was that insane, whirlwind romance everyone has when they’re young. He was gorgeous and charismatic and intelligent, total catch. I never had bad signs against him which always made me feel comforted. Until he proposed, he proposed to me on our ten month anniversary in August. And after six weeks of a drought, do you know when it started to rain? The second I said yes. In the moment I figured it was romantic and a good sign. But I have always hated the rain (ruins my hair and makeup) I always get sick in it and I’ve never really wanted to be proposed to in pouring rain. But I didn’t really think of that in the moment. Over the course of ten months of wedding planning things kept going wrong and it really started freaking me out. Wedding dress got lost, favourite venue booked out, ink spilled over invites, nightmare on the night of the engagement shower and rehearsal dinner. Just little things but every time I’d tell someone this is weird they’d call me crazy and say everyone has mishaps on wedding planning which IS true so I brushed it under. My fiancé was also beginning to show signs of strange behaviour that he hadn’t before: shorter temper than usual, out late with his friends more often, forgetting to do tasks I asked him to, laziness when it came to sorting out his side of things. Tiny things, insignificant really but all together they were freaking me out. Anyway, we were getting married in a church in June and everything was sorted out like we figured it all out. On the morning of my wedding I was really nervous and chalked it up to wedding nerves. I saw my bouquet that had come in fresh from the florist and it was the wrong flowers I’d asked for lillie’s and it was red roses which I always associated with funeral flowers, amazing. My good luck charm which was meant to be a golden pendant I had went missing and I couldn’t find it and on the drive to the church we drove past three black cats (not together obviously but) and I was starting to just freak out. I was thinking about all the bad signs, how maybe the rain wasn’t a good one, the behaviour he was beginning to show I didn’t like. And I just quietly said to myself outloud as I was getting out the car that if this wasn’t supposed to happen if I really wasn’t meant to marry him I needed a sign ASAP. Yes I know I am a bit insane. I was standing on the steps to the inside of the church and guess fucking what? Started to rain…in june. And the wrong music played, I was not meant to be walking down the aisle to a thousand years. But I really tried to just stop getting in my head about it I was too scared to back out now even though my gut was telling me to turn and leg it. I went into the church and I was looking at my fiancé and he wasn’t crying like I’d always wanted he was just staring at me and I looked at the beautiful stain glass windows behind him that had the sun shining through on everyone (it’s why I picked the church) and I thought at least it had stopped raining. And I noticed the only person who the sun wasn’t hitting (out of all the groomsman and bridesmaids up there) was, you guessed it, my fiancé. It was just around him but not on him. Final strike: when I took his hand he was freezing cold to the touch, like just freezing. Once again it was june. And I just silently stood there for a minute as the priest started talking and I was looking down at my roses I didn’t want and I decided that I was going to be that crazy person and trust my gut and the signs. And I said sorry and turned around and legged it out of there. I felt awful and we obviously lost a lot of money. But in the months that followed while I felt guilty and sad I never felt regret, not even once. Anyways that was six years ago now and I’ve met someone new, we’ve been together for almost two years and I am watching out for the signs. None bad so far. :)
