I forgot my child in the car 24 years ago...

I forgot my child was in the car, 24 years ago.... My daughter was less than a year old. I was supposed to drop her off at my mother in laws on my way to work that morning. My wife was putting her in the car seat while I finished getting ready. She was a great kid and didn't fuss about anything. I got half way to work when I looked in the back seat through the mirror and saw her there. My heart sank... I hated myself, I couldn't believe that I did that. I was genuinely devastated that I could have caused my child to die. It was humiliating and I never completely forgave myself. She is now 24 and finishing up her degree in dental hygiene this year.
