I convinced my wife to buy a house two hours away because I was tired of her parents constantly turning up uninvited.

When we were looking to buy our first house, my wife wanted to stay close to her parents. They're decent people, but they have absolutely no concept of boundaries. Her mother would let herself into our old place to drop things off, and her father regularly appeared on Saturday mornings with jobs he thought needed doing. I found a lovely house in a town about 2 hours away. Good schools, decent transport links, everything we needed. I showed my wife the property and she fell in love with it. What I didn't mention was that I'd been specifically searching for houses at least an hour away from her family. We've lived here for 3 years. They visit about once every month or two. My wife occasionally says she wishes we lived closer. I always tell her we got incredibly lucky with the house.
