I hit my boyfriend back

My boyfriend and I been arguing. Every time we argue, he tends to flip out when his actions are questioned and he’ll become violent or leave. The issue never gets solved as he legit can’t handle a conversation. My dad was an abusive man growing up, so I am familiar with anger turned to violence. I know he is too, as his mom was the same way, clearly he never learned any life lessons from it. Today, he went to place his hands on me as usual, after I already warned him about not doing that ever again. I rocked him with a half fist and his nose started bleeding. He’s injured me before, but this was the first time I got him back. He instantly got his tail tucked between his legs and his violence disappeared. We are the same height and I am 1.5x the weight. Guess he really didn’t think a girl could hit him back. Argument ended instantly and it’s business as usual.
