I photoshopped my lease renewal
It’s now been 3 months since I signed so if they were going to catch me, I feel like they would have noticed. My apartment is a crappy cheap complex where none of the appliances work well, maintenance sucks, bug issues, etc. However I just wasn’t in the mental space to move. Anyways they announced in May that the pool and gym would be closed for the summer and the gym would be closed till the spring because it all failed city and health inspections.
This didn’t stop them by raising my rent $230 dollars. They posted it on my door with different options based on how many months you wanted to renew to. You basically circled and signed and brought to the office and they would send you a contract. The cheapest one was an increase of $230. I had about a month to decide if I wanted to renew.
I don’t know if this is retaliation for me complaining about a leaky washer that flooded my place or the dishwasher that flooded my place which made them replace both. It is barely worth what I pay now, and definitely not worth $230 even if the pool and gym worked (2 amenities I use). Raising rent and then also offering less is dumb. I unfortunately used ChatGPT (sorry I know AI is shitty), to take the lease agreement and change the amounts to include my current rent and create a range of monthly renewals that would be in-line with my current rent amount. I printed that out on work printer and circled and signed my amount for 12 months.
I took to leasing office and the leasing worker took it and said they would send over the lease on email. 2 hours later, they called and asked where I got the paper, I just said it was on my door, luckily the leasing office has a high turnover rate so I guess the actual one got lost in a paper trail over the month. They sent me a lease and it had a $24 dollar rent increase, I can live with that. I signed and now have one more year of this place. I will probably move as I make more money and would like a place with more than 3 stars on google, but I didn’t think it would work.
