My friend thinks I remembered his birthday for 12 years. I forgot it every single year.

Years ago I forgot one of my closest friend’s birthdays. I felt terrible, so I immediately put a yearly reminder in my phone. Every year since, I’ve messaged him first thing in the morning.He’s mentioned several times that I’m one of the only people who “always remembers.” I’ve never remembered once. Last year we were talking about friendship and he actually used it as an example of how thoughtful I am. I didn’t have the heart to tell him that somewhere inside my phone is a recurring notification doing approximately 90% of the emotional labour in our friendship. The reminder is currently scheduled until 2032
