I hate my privileged life
Grew up poor, met a good man who works hard and told him I wouldnt marry him until we both got college degrees. And we did, worked two jobs each during school. I got pregnant before I graduated, he graduated before the baby was born. Post grad, we had another baby. We both ended up with decent jobs, though nothing like we had planned. We are barely middle class...which should be a blessing. We were lucky enough to be able to mortgage a home and dont worry about putting food on the table.
Yet, I hate it all.
My kids are growing up 'middle class' but it is the equivalent of when i grew up poor. We arent on assistance, sure but damn I wish we qualified. My husband works 3 jobs, I work 2. Our degrees dont mean shit. Our kids cant be latch key like we were; its no longer acceptable, so I work nights and swings while husband works days and weekends so someone is home with kids all the time. We never see each other. Were always too burnt out to spend quality time with each other. Our kids are amazing and lovely, but the toll its taken on them is obvious. I wish we were either actually poor(so we can spend time together) or super rich. The middle class is shit, its all a facade.
