I'm glad Christa Pike's execution failed and I hope she suffers for the rest of her life
This probably makes me sound cold, but I'm not sorry. When I heard Tennessee's lethal injection didn't work on Christa Pike, I wasn't upset. I was glad. A quick death was always too easy for her.
In 1995 she and two friends lured Colleen Slemmer, a 19 year old classmate from Job Corps, into the woods in Knoxville. They tortured her. Pike carved a pentagram into her chest, beat her to death, and then kept a piece of Colleen's skull as a souvenir. That wasn't panic or a mistake. She knew exactly what she was doing, every minute of it.
Now everyone wants to talk about her age and her childhood. Plenty of people have horrible childhoods and never torture anybody. Colleen got no appeals, no UN experts, and no three decades to tell her side. Pike got all of that.
So yes, I'm glad it failed. Let her live with it for as long as she has. What kind of world are we living in where the person who did that gets the sympathy?
