I turned a peaceful morning hike into a brown lake

I have a confession. This morning I went on my usual peaceful sunrise hike. Crisp air. Birds chirping. Feeling like a disciplined, high-functioning adult who has his life together. Somewhere about halfway through, I felt a distant rumble in my stomach. You know the one. The polite warning rumble. The “maybe we should head home soon” rumble. I tried to ignore it. Denial is powerful. But within seconds, my body escalated from courtesy notice to mandatory evacuation order. There was no negotiating. No debating. No “let’s see how this plays out.” It was clear: if I didn’t start jogging immediately, there was going to be a catastrophic event in the middle of a public trail. So I start running. The rumble intensifies. Every step felt like I was carrying a shaken soda bottle with the cap barely screwed on. At this point I’m scanning the landscape like I’m in a survival documentary. I see a small offshoot trail. Slightly downhill. Enough brush for partial privacy. It’s now or never. I veer off. Hustle down a bit. Drop into emergency position. And within approximately 1.6 seconds… Lake Nicarcaca was formed. I have never experienced such immediate, violent relief. It was like my body hit the factory reset button. I stood there in stunned silence, staring at what can only be described as a small geographical feature. I looked around. No witnesses. No hikers. Just me and the fresh memory of poor life choices. I made the executive decision to exit the scene swiftly and pretend I was never there. Walked back onto the main trail like a man who had just survived a natural disaster. I made it home. I washed my chonies. I have never felt lighter in my life. If you were hiking this morning and noticed a suspicious mudslide slightly off trail… I’m sorry. To the wildlife: may nature do its thing. To my digestive system: we need to talk about pre-workout timing. That is all.
