I secretly muted my neighbor's obnoxious metal wind chimes with silicone glue
My next-door neighbor hung a massive set of steel wind chimes right outside my bedroom window three months ago. They sounded like someone dropped a toolbox down a flight of stairs every time a gentle breeze rolled through.
I tried being the reasonable adult. I walked over and politely asked him if he could move them to his back porch so I could actually sleep before my morning shifts. He smirked, told me the chimes bring positive energy into the neighborhood, and left them hanging. I spent the next four weeks sleeping with earplugs that gave me ear infections.
so last Tuesday at three in the morning, I took a tube of clear silicone sealant and a ladder into my yard. I leaned over the fence and applied a thick coat of transparent silicone around the inner clapper and the edges of the metal tubes. You cant see the glue unless your standing two inches away in direct sunlight.
The next afternoon we had a thunderstorm with twenty mile-per-hour winds. Those chimes were swinging violently around in circles, and they were completely SILENT. Not a single chime. I watched from my kitchen window as my neighbor walked outside in the pouring rain, tapped the metal with his finger, looked up at the sky, and scratched his head in pure confusion.
I feel zero guilt. My bedroom is quiet again.
