I let an intrusive thought win today
I've never really admitted this to anyone because it feels so unlike me.
I've always been the "good girl." I followed the rules, got good grades, stayed out of trouble, and have always been loyal in my relationships. I've always been the responsible one. The predictable one.
Lately though... it's like something in my head has changed.
I keep having these random thoughts that don't feel like me at all. Not because I actually want to become a different person, but because I suddenly catch myself wondering, "What if I didn't always do the safe thing?"
Today, something happened that I still can't believe I actually did.
I was getting ready to leave work. If you live in the South, you know how brutally hot it gets this time of year. I was shutting everything down for the day when this random thought popped into my head.
"What if I just went commando?"
I've literally never done that before.
I was wearing a short pink skirt, and before I could talk myself out of it, I quietly slipped off my underwear at my desk. Then I just sat there for a second thinking, "Well... if I'm already doing something I've never done before..."
So I took off my bra too.
I don't even know why.
It wasn't for anyone else. Nobody knew. Nobody saw. It was just this weird impulse that I actually acted on.
When I walked out of the office, I felt this rush I can't really explain. I had a couple of stops to make on the way home, and the whole time I couldn't stop wondering if anyone could tell. They couldn't, obviously, but my brain kept making me think they somehow knew.
It wasn't even about attention. It was the fact that I had done something completely outside of who I've always believed I was. For the first time in a long time, I felt spontaneous instead of predictable.
Now I'm home wondering why something so small made me feel so alive.
Part of me feels ridiculous for even thinking about it this much. Another part of me can't stop smiling because I actually let myself do something that broke my own rules for once.
I don't know what that says about me, but it feels good to finally admit it somewhere
