I’m crashing a wedding
First time, hopefully only time. It’s the day after tomorrow but I need to drive down there because it’s in the country side.
I love her always have really since I first met her when we were 15. I was just too much of a coward to admit it or say anything to her because I valued her as a constant presence in my life but I was talking to my sister this morning and she gave me some great life advice and then helped me realise I had the green light.
Advice wasn’t actually that profound but she told me we only get one life and it is actually up to us alone to make sure we live it. Idk it just got to me. I fucking love her so what the fuck am I doing?
Green light? We’re both 23 and she’s always maintained she didn’t want to get married young, she wanted to live a little first. And he’s not the guy she deserves and I know it seems like I’m biased but I’m not. She is warm and smart and funny and beautiful and she can’t settle for him he is so unbearably average and she is so fucking extraordinary. And that’s not me saying I am, because I’m not even close. But I would try, for her, I will try to be better and he hasn’t. Ever. Also, I asked her why she was marrying him when we were both drunk about a month ago and she told me she felt like he would be a good husband to her. That is not a reason to marry someone. And in all her doting to us or others she has never once mentioned the whole point: because she loves him.
And then she jokingly said something along the lines of “And I couldn’t stay frozen in time waiting, Alex. I’m not seventeen anymore time has to move.” And I remember thinking that was pretty fucking weird. But I’m clearly stupid and didn’t pick up on what she meant. The significance of seventeen? It was the closest we ever got to being something. There was a kiss at a party and a horrific failure to man up and make it mean something on my part.
I shouldn’t have made her wait and I get that she wants to move on. I need her to move on WITH ME. And I am selfish enough to risk it and ask her to give me a chance because it’s worth it. It is worth it and if I lose her then at least I know. Because never knowing will kill me.
Anyway I hope not to crash the real thing I’m fairly confident I can see her the night before or morning of. But not above crashing! So alls fair. And everyone, barring my sister, is going to tell me not to do this because this isn’t a TV show so I’m telling Reddit. Because you can’t stop me. I hope I’ve managed to justify myself to you. If not, we’ll see.
