My family thinks my sewing machine broke two years ago. I've been using it almost every week

I told my mum the motor had gone and getting it fixed would cost more than the machine was worth. She offered to put some money towards a new one. I said I was taking a break from sewing anyway. None of that was true. I'd become the person who could quickly fix things. Trousers mostly, then curtains, then a dress with a broken zip. My aunt brought over four pairs of jeans in a grocery bag once and left them by my front door because I was out. No message until later that evening. I came home and thought someone had delivered clothes to the wrong house. I caused some of this myself. When I first learned, I was desperate to show everybody what I could do. I'd take something off you while you were still explaining what was wrong with it. Then I got better, started working full time, and had less patience for spending my evenings shortening someone else's trousers. The dress was what did it. My cousin needed it for a wedding and I agreed before looking at it properly. It had a lining, slippery fabric, and somebody had already tried fixing the zip. I spent most of Sunday on it. She was grateful, gave me a bottle of wine and sent a photo from the wedding. I dont even have a complaint about how she behaved. I just wanted my Sunday back. So the machine mysteriously died a few weeks later. It lives in a cupboard now. I pull it out when I have the flat to myself, usually with something to listen to, and work on whatever I feel like. Last month I made a skirt and wore it to lunch with my mum. She complimented it. I said I'd found it secondhand. That bit felt ridiculous. I've also become much more secretive than the situation warrants. I put fabric deliveries away before family visits. My boyfriend once mentioned that I'd been sewing and I interrupted him to say I was doing some repairs by hand. He wasnt impressed when I explained afterwards, although he hasn't brought it up in front of them again. They're generous people. My aunt drove me to work for a week when my car was being repaired. My mum regularly brings me leftovers. This isn't some awful family taking advantage of me, which makes the whole thing harder to admit. There's no special occassion coming up, no big project I'm hiding. I spent last night making a pocket deeper because my phone kept falling out. Took about twenty minutes. I enjoyed doing it.
