How can I balance my demanding profession with nurturing our relationship?
We’ve been together for a year now. I’m a 27-year-old pursuing my MD, and my partner is a 24-year-old MBA student. Despite being in very different fields, we started as friends, and our relationship gradually deepened into something more. The first few months were great, even though we had different choices and mindsets. We connected deeply and envisioned a long-term relationship.
However, over time, things started to change. I began to feel that my partner might not understand my profession and its demands. I tend to overthink and have battled depression since childhood, whereas my partner is calm and analytical, and she loves me deeply. Despite this, I struggle to show her my feelings, and our expectations often clash.
These differences have led to numerous fights. During one argument, she suggested we part ways. Although I was scared and didn’t want to break up, I felt helpless and didn’t beg her to stay. My busy work schedule leaves me with little time for her, which she tries to understand, but I always feel guilty. We argue over things that seem trivial to me but are significant to her. Despite her efforts, I find myself avoiding her. She loves me so much.
I worry about our future. I need healing and stability. How can we address these deep-rooted issues? How can I balance my demanding profession with nurturing our relationship? I want this to succeed because our connection feels immensely deep. I love her so much but show little.
