“If the plane goes down, I need to be in the correct seat so my body can be identified.”
Yes, I committed the flagrant flight taboo by having the audacity to utter an allusion to the plane crashing.
I was asked to switch my window seat so a man could sit with his wife and child but I’d paid for this seat and usually, I’m diffident and I’d acquiesce to moving but I had the worst migraine throbbing behind my eyes so I couldn’t exert the effort to reproach this family for their lack of accountability. Buy your seats if you want to sit together.
I said “I’m sorry, I’m not feeling the best” which I thought was a diplomatic response but enough for someone to construe I wasn’t going to move.
“Excuse me, I need to sit with my wife. She has flight anxiety!” And? I have a fucking migraine and a nine hour flight to endure with you now hovering over me demanding my seat, I did not say this but just reaffirmed I’m staying in MY seat that I paid for.
His wife censures me “It’s not that big of a deal. Just get up.” And she just kept on, and on telling me to get up!
So I said “If the plane goes down, I need to be in the correct seat so my body can be identified” and I said it to be malicious and to shut the wife up and trigger her anxiety.
It did. Spent nine hours trembling beside me but at least she was quiet.
